On May 25, 2020, George Floyd was brutally murdered by Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin. Floyd's death sparked widespread protests and outrage, and brought the issue of police brutality and racial injustice to the forefront of American consciousness.

Five years later, the city of Minneapolis is still grappling with the legacy of Floyd's death. George Floyd Square, the intersection where Floyd was killed, remains a symbol of both the pain and the progress that has been made in the fight for racial justice.

The square has been a site of both protests and celebrations, and has become a gathering place for the community. It is also a reminder of the work that still needs to be done to address the systemic racism that led to Floyd's death.

In the years since Floyd's murder, Minneapolis has made some progress in addressing racial injustice. The city has created a new police accountability system, and has invested in affordable housing and other programs to support communities of color.

However, there is still much work to be done. Police violence and racial disparities continue to exist in Minneapolis and across the country. The death of George Floyd was a wake-up call, and it is important to continue to fight for the justice that he and so many others deserve.
