Algerian Boxer Imane Khelif Has Been Confirmed For The Tokyo Olympics Despite Facing Intense Scrutiny In The Run Up To The Games

Algeria's Imane Khelif gears up for Tokyo Olympics after facing scrutiny

Algerian boxer Imane Khelif has been confirmed for the Tokyo Olympics, despite facing intense scrutiny in the run-up to the Games.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) confirmed Khelif's participation on Wednesday, following a period of uncertainty after the boxer was attacked by the Algerian Olympic Committee (COA).

Khelif, who ranked 17th at the 2018 AIBA Women's World Boxing Championships in New Delhi, has been the subject of intense scrutiny in the run-up to the Tokyo Olympics.

The COA had previously condemned "baseless attacks" on Khelif, amid scrutiny of her participation in the Games.

The boxer's participation in the Olympics has been widely welcomed by the Algerian public, who have expressed their support for Khelif on social media.

Khelif is expected to compete in the women's middleweight division at the Tokyo Olympics.

The boxer is one of Algeria's leading hopes for a medal at the Games.
